Circle is a Spatial Work by Fausto Ferrara, conceived in Berlin as a private gallery.

The Work originates from an elementary geometry — the circle — stripped of any autonomous iconic or symbolic function. Circular form becomes necessary through movement, the central void and the body’s path: a continuous perimeter protects and measures a space open to the sky, transforming architecture into a sequence of distances, orientations and thresholds.

Circumambulation is the generative principle of the Work. There is no privileged viewpoint: space is understood by moving through it. The body travels around an empty centre, while light, matter and geometry continuously alter the perception of distance and time.

Circle therefore does not use form as a recognizable image. The circle is not represented: it is inhabited. It is the relationship between body, void, light and sky that transforms an abstract geometry into architecture.

Conceived as a private gallery in Berlin, the Work brings this research into the field of a cultural commission: exhibition space is not treated as a neutral container, but as a structure capable of determining how art is traversed, perceived and related to the body.

Circle belongs to Ferrara’s research into Necessary Form: form acquires meaning only when it establishes a necessary relationship between human beings, space, light and time.
