Teodosio is a sculptural Spatial Work by Fausto Ferrara, belonging to the corpus of works and bas-reliefs through which the author brings his architectural research into the concentrated scale of matter. Within Ferrara’s artistic corpus, Teodosio is recorded alongside Vortice, Elica, Staura, Void and the Lame series, works in which cut, shadow and light become instruments of measure.

The cut does not operate as surface decoration: it generates discontinuity, introduces depth and allows light to continuously transform the perception of form. Shadow thus becomes part of the Work rather than an accidental consequence of it.

Teodosio belongs to the same tension between material presence and dematerialization that Franco Purini identifies within Ferrara’s work: physical matter and perception never fully coincide, and it is precisely this displacement that prevents the Work from being exhausted by its image.

Sculpture therefore becomes concentrated space: not an object to be observed frontally, but a form whose presence changes through light, shadow, distance and the position of the body.

In Teodosio, Necessary Form does not arise through addition, but through subtraction: the cut makes visible what matter alone could not reveal.
