Fausto Ferrara is an architectural author whose research has explored for more than thirty years the relationship between human beings, place, perception and form.
His works arise from the idea that architecture can transcend construction and become an inhabitable work: a necessary form in which matter, light, water, landscape, threshold and the body participate in the making of a place.
Ferrara does not begin with style, image or product. The project begins by listening to the place and from the need to establish a relationship between human beings and the space they inhabit.
THE INHABITABLE WORK
In Fausto Ferrara’s work, the house, the temple, the sensory space and the Spatial Work belong to the same research.
Architecture becomes a Work when building exceeds programme and establishes an irreducible relationship between human being, place and form.
From this position emerges the concept of the inhabitable work: an architecture that asks not only to be observed, but to be crossed, perceived and lived.
PERCEPTION, PLACE, FORM
Ferrara’s research begins with the condition of contemporary human beings and the progressive loss of the capacity to perceive.
Architecture can once again construct depth, limit, measure and presence.
Before drawing comes listening to the place: light, wind, matter, scents, topography, water, vegetation and landscape become part of the origin of form.
AN AUTONOMOUS AND NECESSARY VOICE
Fausto Ferrara’s authorship has been recognized over time by major critical voices from architecture, art and research into space.
Kenneth Frampton identifies Ferrara as an “autonomous and necessary voice”, capable of uniting rigor with spirituality, construction with contemplation, and of returning architecture to the condition of an act of truth.
Franco Purini describes Ferrara as a “true architect-artist”, recognizing in his research a totality of sign and meaning.
Francesco Dal Co, Enrico Crispolti, Philippe Daverio, Elena Liotta and Elisabetta Cristallini have, from different perspectives, recognized the architectural, artistic, perceptual and inner dimension of his research.

In Fausto Ferrara's work, architecture, art and thought do not constitute separate disciplines.
They belong to the same quest: to restore to man the ability to perceive, to place its own voice and to form its own necessity.

Fausto Ferrara's works are developed through Arckeo , an operational structure and Executive Workshop for selected architecture, design development and construction projects.
